An all star cast leads this troubling thriller about a bank robbery gone terribly wrong. Two brothers with big financial problems plan a "fool proof" robbery of their parent's jewelry store. But things go terribly wrong when the younger brother brings in a third person who botches the job and leaves their Mom on her death bed. Things spiral out of control from their in this dark and morally obtuse tale of where greed and lies can take you.
This film was shot with the Genesis HD camera so the image has an exceptionally detailed look to it. The image is incredibly clean but the colors have been stylized quite a bit. Contrast can be quite stark at times and hues waver considerably depending on the mood. I don't know what happen during the authoring of this disc but I saw quite a bit of moir and line twitter throughout, especially around fine detail. While it wasn't overly distracting it was more than I'm used to see from a live action film release.
The soundtrack is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and overall is an average mix. Nothing really stands out as exceptional, but nothing is wrong with it either. Balance is nicely maintained in the soundstage and dialogue is always clean and intelligible. This isn't a very dynamic mix but it does have its moments of presence and the bottom end kicks in when needed.
Some decent extras on this release. You get a behind the scenes production feature with interviews of the cast and crew and a feature commentary with the director and lead actors. The trailer is also included.
I'm surprised this didn't get a wider release theatrically. The performances are exceptional but the tone and subject matter are definitely on the dark side. But I enjoyed every bit.
