Imax Deep Sea 3D (Blu-ray 3D)
This is the second time I've seen this documentary on home video, but experiencing it in 3D blows away the DVD. Our oceans house some of the most interesting creatures on our planet and this Imax presentation takes you right into the action with freakishly realistic visuals.
Video Highlights
- AVC/1080p encode on a BD-25 disc
- Mesmerizing 3D effects
- Sharp as a tack
- Amazing color
- Excellent depth and detail
Audio Highlights
- Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack
- Enveloping surround track
- Abundance of panning effects
- Danny Elfman score is outstanding
- Intelligible narration from Depp and Winslet
This is an excellent demo showpiece to highlight what Blu-ray 3D brings to the table. There's excellent depth and detail in the image and I was surprised that I didn't see any banding in the underwater shot. The lossy audio track is the only downer for an otherwise excellent presentation.
Bonus Materials
- 2D version of the film
While the 3D experience isn't as enveloping as a live Imax experience, this documentary is very informative and looks great on Blu-ray 3D. If you have younger children, this would be a great way to introduce them to a lot of the creatures they see in Finding Nemo, but in a real world environment.
