Bruce Garipay of Electronics Concierge

Speaking of keeping things safe: Since the house sits right on the ocean, corrosion from the salt air is a major concern. "There are also issues with heat and humidity," says Garipay. "So I placed the gear in racks in air-conditioned rooms and closets. Outside, I sheltered the speakers as much as possible. But there's always a balance between putting components where you want them and putting them where the architect and the owner will let you put them." With Casa Fortuna, however, Garipay worked with owners who understand the value of technology. "The Damavandis have Control 4 systems in their homes in Los Angeles," he notes.

For the Damavandis, Casa Fortuna serves as an example of what can be incorporated into the other vacation homes the family plans to build. "We wanted to show that you can enjoy the quality and convenience of the custom electronics you'd find in the U.S. while surrounded by the beauty of Mexico," says Cliff Damavandi.

That means being able to catch the latest news, sports, and TV shows, listen to a wide variety of music anywhere on the property, and watch movies in high-def after surfing, fishing, or just relaxing by the pool. Now that's a fortunate position to be in.
