Pioneer S-2EX Speaker System, ADA Cinema Rhapsody Mach III Controller, and ADA PTM-8150 Amplifier HT Labs Measures: Pioneer
Satellite Sensitivity: 87 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Center Sensitivity: 90 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the S2-EX satellites (purple trace), S-W1EX subwoofer (blue trace), and S7-EX center channel (green trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured without grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.
The S2-EX's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.24/–1.98 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 46 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 40 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.44 ohms at 117 Hz and a phase angle of –68.20 degrees at 70 Hz.
The S7-EX's listening-window response measures +1.04/–3.69 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +1.15/–3.97 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 56 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 46 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.49 ohms at 136 Hz and a phase angle of –62.60 degrees at 74 Hz.
The S-W1EX's close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 32 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 30 Hz in Music mode. The upper –3-dB point is at 128 Hz with the Crossover control set to maximum.—MJP
