Will Sony License Movies to YouTube?
YouTube is talking to Sony Pictures about the possibility of licensing full-length movies for viewing through the popular website. While this would not be the first time YouTube has licensed content, it would be the first time major motion pictures have been approved for free YouTubing.
The rumor first appeared on News.com--though neither party has confirmed it. If the deal goes through, YouTube will be on a hot streak, having already licensed ABC and ESPN material from Disney.
YouTube will need licensed content to compete with the growing variety of legal TV-on-the-web offerings from the networks' own websites as well as the likes of Hulu. The Google-owned site is predicted to lose $470 million this year, reports Multichannel News.
