Dolby Atmos Firmware Update Now Available for Onkyo Receivers

Onkyo today announced that the firmware update enabling Dolby Atmos sound on three of its network AV receivers is now available. The free update is available via a network connection or USB download for the TX-NR636 ($699), TX-NR737 ($899), and TX-NR838 ($1,199) receivers. The NR636 and NR838 models are Sound & Vision 2014 Top Picks.

The high-end TX-NR1030 ($1,699) and TX-NR3030 ($2,399) AV receivers and flagship PR-SC5530 AV controller ($2,499) will ship in mid-October with Dolby Atmos built in. The new HT-S7700 home theater system ($899) also has built-in Dolby Atmos.

In making the announcement, the company noted that all 2014 Onkyo AV receivers and controllers, beginning with the TX-NR636, feature dual 32-bit processing to decode, scale, and calibrate Dolby Atmos for any home theater application. Onkyo’s Atmos-capable components are also equipped with HDMI 2.0 connections, support HDCP 2.2 copy protection, and, starting with the NR838, feature THX-certified audio performance.
