Vizio Announces 2018 Performance Series Smart TVs

Vizio has announced three new models for its top performing P-Series line of smart TVs.

The announcement is one of several Vizio made this week, including the addition of three new models to its M-Series line of smart TVs.

Ranging in price from $900 to $2,500, the new P-Series models feature Vizio’s “Pro” full-array backlighting with up to 120 local dimming zones, up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness, Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) processing, Vizio’s Ultra Color Spectrum technology that “utilizes more than a billion colors in each scene,” and a new streamlined version of Vizio’s SmartCast operating system that’s compatible with the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice-control platforms.

Three screen sizes, all featuring a near bezel-free design, are available now on vizio.com and coming soon to Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and Sam's Club: the 55-inch P55-F1 ($900), 65-inch P65-F1 ($1,300), and 75-inch P75-F1 ($2,500).

In addition to Dolby Vision, P-Series TVs support the HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR formats and have up to 120 local dimming zones with LEDs that respond dynamically to what’s on screen to enhance contrast and shadow detail. This compares with 40 dimming zones on the Vizio’s M-Series TVs. Vizio’s Clear Action 720 image processing combined with an effective refresh rate of 240 Hz, achieved with backlight scanning, “ensures fast-action content looks both smooth and razor-sharp.”

Vizio’s 2018 SmartCast platform offers Google Chromecast built-in for access to thousands of Chromecast-enabled apps plus a selection of on-screen apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, Vudu, iHeartRadio, Crackle, and Xumo. The platform is also capable of controlling a wide range of smart home devices and enables voice control for functions such as turning the TV on and off, changing channels, adjusting volume, and, for Google Assistant users, streaming content to the TV.
