Although committed to carrying out his twisted brand of vigilante justice - Dexter begins to doubt his murderous capabilities and continues to be haunted by his tortured past. His difficulties multiply when evidence of his deadly after-hours activities begins to surface and the FBI is brought in to investigate the city's new serial killer dubbed the "Bay Harbor Butcher". Dexter can't pause for a breath as the noose tightens and the questions keep mounting. Will he be able to continue his serial-killing ways? Or will Dexter's dark past finally be uncovered.

One of the best cable shows on television returns with a great second season that may even be more entertaining than the first! I’ve definitely fallen in love with this show and I’m anxiously chomping at the bit for the third season to arrive on Blu as I haven’t had the chance to follow it on Showtime. This season focuses more on Dexter as his corpses are discovered by some divers. The FBI is called in and the evidence starts pointing back to the department putting Dexter in a tight corner. This is a nail biter season that is actually hard to stop watching so make sure you spare the time!

The second season doesn’t look much different from the first, and that’s not a bad thing. Fine detail is overwhelmingly great with lots of great texture. This show is shot digitally so the source material is crystal clear and you rarely get any kind of noise. Contrast levels are good but blacks can be a tad washed out at times and like season one I saw some minor white clipping from time to time. Colors look incredible and the Miami backdrop provides some rich eye candy with its beaches and skyline. Nothing much to complain about here.

The soundtrack is presented in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD and sounds better than most TV shows I get in for review. The show’s score does a great job with the mood and the soundstage has a very open feel. Surrounds add plenty of ambiance and the spatial design really gives the show an airy feel. Dynamic range is impressive at times and low bass extension is quite good when its needed.

Extras are presented via BD-Live and include the ability to download the first two episodes of Showtime’s United States of Terra along with some production features for Dexter. You also get a look at the comic book series that is showcased in the series, The Dark Defender.

Paramount once again does a great job serving this deliciously clever and dark show on Blu-ray. I only hope that the third season arrives sooner rather than later!!
