Caddyshack (Blu-ray)
What makes Caddyshack a classic is the hilarious performances by the ensemble cast. First, there's Bill Murray as the crazed groundskeeper who will stop at nothing to destroy a dreaded gopher. Then there's Rodney Dangerfield as the pompous millionaire who loves to stick it to Smails at every opportunity. And finally Chevy Chase, who helps Danny figure out what he wants to do with his life. You can't help but laugh at this cast of characters.
Video Highlights
- VC-1/1080p encode on a BD-25 disc
- Strong color palette, especially green
- Occasional softness
- Adequate detail for a 1980s film
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Front-loaded presentation
- Decent ambience on occasion
- Clear dialog
- Sufficient dynamics
Given the age of the film it looks surprisingly good and is a big upgrade over the DVD. Detail is much better and the color palette really jumps off the screen. The audio track is serviceable, but nothing to write home about.
Bonus Materials
- Caddyshack: The Inside Story (HD)
- Caddyshack: The 19th Hole (SD)
While this movie doesn't scream "see me in HD," it certainly is a lot of fun and I'm glad Warner decided to release it on Blu-ray. The presentation is adequate given its age and is a worthy addition to your collection if you are a fan of the film.
