With the image paused, no one in the room saw anything amiss with the SED display from Toshiba/Canon. But the camera has a different take on things.

Looking for home theater on the cheap? The 1280x720 <A HREF="http://www.infocushome.com/amer/eng/products/screenplay/sp5000.asp" TARGET="NEW"> <b> InFocus ScreenPlay 5000 </b></A> LCD projector can be had at Costco for $999. Follow the directions glued to the box and they’ll mail you a 72” screen as well. Not that the guy in front of me in the checkout line was going to bother with a screen. Last year he bought his first projector and just painted his basement wall white. This second InFocus projector was for his kid (click <u>here</u> to download adoption papers).

I remember sitting in a CES press conference sometime in the year $149 D.V.D. listening to Toshiba whine about how no one was making any money selling DVD players any more. But moments later, they were announcing new models with new features and even lower price points. I guess you can't blame them. After all they had a lot of competition back then.

Nope – this isn't another story about the Feb 17th analog cut-off designed to incite people living under a rock for the last few years into vigilante justice. Heck, I'm just as guilty of inaction as anyone else, because I still have no plans for that 13" glow box sitting on my kitchen counter (besides the set of ear plugs I keep in the night stand to block out Gina's screams when she goes down to make coffee and turns on the TV on that infamous day.) I was supposed to handle it. But like everyone else, I plan on taking no personal responsibility and will simply blame the gooberment.

I'd like to open with a joke. Two antennas get married. The wedding wasn't anything special, but the reception was amazing!

After hearing he was leaving the public radio waves for pay-per-swear satellite service for the umpteenth time, the day has finally come and, halleluiah, he’s gone. It’s a little too late though. After all, he already, almost single-handedly, ruined radio.

I've always had a thing for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's recordings. Their long standing relationship with Telarc is probably why. I've had a long standing relationship with Telarc too. Well before I was a reviewer, I was just a rabid stereophile (the avocation, not the magazine) and I read every issue of Stereophile (the magazine, not the avocation), cover to cover. Telarc and Delos recordings were always spinning on their reviewers' CD players. I bought a few, like <a href= "http://www.amazon.com/Respighi-Pines-Rome-Birds-Fountains/dp/B000003CT0/... target="new">Respighi's Pines of Rome </a>, Louis Lane conducting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and <a href=" http://www.amazon.com/Copland-Appalachian-Spring-Fanfare-Common/dp/B0000... target="new">Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, Rodeo and Fanfare for the Common Man</a>, with Lane at the helm of the ASO once again. The recordings were excellent, No excellent is too tame a word. They were – they still are – exquisite. Expansive as the universe, as civilized as infinity, and punctuated with their trademark Tympani kicks that separated the boys from the men when it came to seeing whose audiophile tweaked system was better than whose.

The real prize in my two-channel system, at least the prize du jour, is the resurrection of the Stax SRX headphones and SRD-7 headphone amplifier. Well, it’s not really an amplifier, just a transformer. You wire it to the output of your real amplifier with these pretty cheesy (at least by audiophile standards) wires that are hard-soldered inside the unit. Then you screw down your beefier audiophile speaker cable (or in my case, the equally cheesy Radio Shack 16 gauge) to the terminals provided on the back of the SRD-7 and use a switch on the front panel to choose between headphones or speakers.

Saturday morning and the cable modem craps out. I hook up the Blackberry to my laptop and pull over into the truck lane of the Information Highway.

Well, I finally saw Toshiba and Canon's joint venture: Surface-Conduction Electronic-Emitter Display. You need all those hyphens or the acronym becomes a very uncatchy SCEED. The fairly large flat panels I saw were showing high contrast, bright colored video and, yes, SED looked great. I didn't understand much in the demo except when key words that make your ears perk up. Things that sound like "contrast" but are followed by things that don't sound like any numbers with which I'm familar.

It’s quite an amazing little device, when it works, and when it doesn’t work, it’s not its fault! That’s the best way to size up the wonderful little Ira Wi-Fi Internet radio from <a href="http://www.myine.com/ira.php">Myine</a>. Setup is easy. You just need a wireless router somewhere within range. If your router has security enabled, you can enter your password via the remote by selecting all your letters, numbers and special characters in the large, easy to read LCD screen of the Ira.

In the first half of 2007, JVC will bring out a true HD camcorder. The camcorder will have a hard drive built in so you can forget about tapes forever. The size of the drive, unknown, but I wouldn't be surprised if would hold at least a "vacation's" worth of video at its 1920 x 1080 resolution. The camera has 10X optical zoom and they had one setup filming a rotating flower display while they showed it on a 1080 plasma. With the "source material" there for direct comparison, the cam looked better than anything I've seen in a consumer format. No price yet.
