Of the one in four Americans who plan to buy a new TV this year, almost half (46 percent) are planning to buy their first 4K/Ultra HD TV, according to a national survey conducted by TNS Global on behalf of FatWallet, the cash back/online coupon website that bills itself as the “number one place to go to get insider information” on ads and deals.
Of those, 25 percent say they plan to target TVs that are on sale in the days leading up to Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7. Another 18 percent plan to wait nine months for Black Friday deals.
Among the survey’s other findings:
- 55 percent plan to spend $500 or more
- 27 percent plan to spend $700 or more
- 43 percent lean toward mid-sized screens (40-54 inch)
- 41 percent want a screen that is at least 55 inches
- 5 percent plan to buy a TV with a 70-inch (or bigger) screen
- 46 percent said price is the most important factor in their TV purchase, followed by features and brand at 36 percent and 18 percent, respectively
- 29 percent report that they now stream most of their TV programming (up 21 percent from a year ago)
