Amazon Becomes First to Stream High Dynamic Range Video

Amazon announced that episodes of its original series will be available in high dynamic range (HDR) format at no additional cost to its Prime members starting with the debut season of Mozart in the Jungle. Netflix was expected to be the first content provider to deliver HDR content before Amazon’s surprise announcement.

For now, the only way to stream the high-contrast HDR version of the show is through the Amazon Video app on one of a handful of currently available Samsung SUHD TVs.

LG was quick to announce that Amazon’s HDR content will be available on its 4K OLED TVs in the “coming weeks.”

“Now, having the first season available for fans in an upgraded visual experience is exciting—the enhanced quality makes every scene look even better and we hope it’s something that our viewers really enjoy,” said Roman Coppola, co-writer of the comedy series.
