Another HD Milestone For Blu-ray

Sony issued a press release last week announcing that the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, has hit another milestone, surpassing 100,000 units shipped to retailers. This follows that same title's debut in the top ten in DVD sales at Amazon, and both feats are firsts for either HD format. In addition, according to Sony this early success also puts BD ahead of where DVD was at its inception.

According to Sony's David Bishop, while the Casino Royale BD took only about two weeks to hit this impressive milestone, the first DVD title to crack 100K units shipped (Sony's Air Force One) was on the market 11 months before doing so. Clearly one of the strongest indicators yet that adoption of Blu-ray is happening at a faster clip than many anticipated (or want to admit), in spite of the format war.
