Audeze, the Santa Ana, CA-based company specializing in planar-magnetic headphones, today introduced two versions of a new “ultra-low-latency” wireless gaming headset dubbed Maxwell — one for Xbox and one for PlayStation.

Maxwell for PlayStation & PC is priced at $299, while Maxwell for Xbox & PC sells for $349 and includes the first auto-activating Dolby Atmos license in addition to being officially licensed by Microsoft.

Both models are closed-back, over-ear headphones and feature the company’s new 3.5-inch (90mm) planer-magnetic driver, which is hailed as significantly larger than the dynamic transducers used in competitive gaming headsets. Both headsets boast a rated battery life said to exceed 80 hours, which far surpasses the playtime of other gaming headsets. Time to full-charge is 2.5 hours with 20 minutes said to provide up to 20 hours of playtime.

To ensure clear communications during gameplay, both headsets have a detachable hypercardioid boom microphone and five built-in beamforming microphones designed by Shure. They also employ Audeze’s proprietary hardware-based noise filtration system, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically eliminate background noise.

Both headsets support Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio plus LC3 and LC3plus codecs as well as high-resolution audio up to 24 bits/96kHz with the supplied USB dongle. To ensure comfort for long gaming sessions, the earpads made of memory foam covered in synthetic leather and the spring-steel headband has an adjustable suspension strap.
