Ausounds Debuts with $150 Wireless Earphones

The latest brand to enter the crowded headphone space is Ausounds, a Wheat Ridge, Colorado-based startup led by CEO Michael Chen that has set out to “design accessible headphones and audio products for music creators and music lovers alike.”

A graduate of England’s Oxford Brookes University with 16 years of experience in audio manufacturing, Chen is joined by music industry veteran CMO Marcus Sanchez who has worked with Audeze, Monster Cable, Universal Music Group, and celebrity musicians Rihanna, Usher, and Chris Brown.

The company’s first product is the water-resistant AU Stream ANC earphones ($150) featuring 0.5-inch titanium drivers, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and active “feed-forward” noise cancellation (ANC) that’s said to reduce noise by –25 dB . The drivers are actually a three-layer composite film tuned for “clarity and soundstage.”

The earphones are rated for 5 hours of talk and music playback with an additional 15 hours provided by the included pocket-size charging case, which supports Qi wireless charging.

The company has enlisted the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Brian Kennedy as brand ambassador and partnered with MusiCares to create a program that “gives back to the music community” by donating $1 from the sale of every Ausounds headphone.

Ausounds said it plans to expand its offerings in early 2020 with the introduction of a High-Fidelity Collection aimed at audiophiles and Pro Collection for sound engineers.
