'Avatar' to get extended DVD/Blu-ray Disc release
Avatar made records as the top grossing film of all time in theaters. Unfortunately, the DVD and Blu-ray release of the film disappointed many viewers because it offered nothing but what they already saw in theaters; they were barebones releases with only the film itself on the discs. On November 16, Avatar fans will finally be able to get the edition they've been waiting for, when the Avatar Extended Collector's Edition hits stores.
The editions include 3 DVDs or 3 Blu-ray Discs, and feature the full 162-minute theatrical release of Avatar, plus the special edition re-release, a collector's extended cut with 16 more minutes and an alternate opening, 45 minutes of deleted scenes, and the feature-length documentary Capturing Avatar. The Blu-ray Disc release adds 17 production featurettes, interactive scene deconstruction with different viewing modes, an Avatar archives with the film's script and a reference encyclopedia, and a BD-Live content portal for accessing even more material online. Unfortunately, both releases will contain only 2D content; if you want the 3D version of Avatar, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
