CES 2010: Snell's new $7,500 center channel
Usually, spending almost eight thousand dollars on a center channel speaker would sound ridiculous. Of course, when you spend over twelve thousand each on your left and right channels, it would practically be silly not to spend that much. Fortunately, Snell has announced the $7,500 Phantom Center speaker.
The Phantom Center features the same dual 4.5-inch magnesium midrange drivers found in the $25,000/pair Phantom B7 towers, combined with dual 8-inch aluminum bass drivers and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter. The speaker allows for single amp, biamp, and even triamp setups. It comes in a glossy black finish by default, but you can get nearly any color of wood finish by special order, just like the Phantom B7 towers.
Snell hasn't yet announced availability for the Phantom Center, but considering the B7 towers that were unveiled at CES 2009 have just begun to ship, you're probably going to be waiting a while for that center channel.
