Control4’s Neeo Promises Refined Smart-Home Control
The Neeo Remote for Control4 ($600) is described as easy to setup, intuitive, and ideal for handling music, video streaming, and personalized smart home control. It’s also designed to be self-installed in Control4 systems running OS 3.
As the first Control4 touchscreen remote that also has physical buttons, the Neeo provides quick one-touch access to favorite streaming services, most-watched TV stations, playlists, and automated room- or household-level smart home scenes. “Hard buttons” are reserved for common functions: power, mute, volume, and home.
The remote also integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants and provides “at a glance” views of all system devices through the Control4 App, Control4 Touchscreen, and via an on-screen TV display.
The handset is made from durable machined aluminum (black or silver) and features a 3-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen that presents bright, crisp images and icons. A super low-profile charging base is included; the remote is said to operate for up to five days when fully charged.
Control4’s Smart Home OS 3 platform enables personalization via one-touch icons and is designed to unify connected devices from major brands. Swiping right on its touchscreen, for example, shows all available video sources.
The Neeo is sold through Control4 Showrooms around the country.
“The modern smart home needs simple interfaces to start a movie, select a playlist, or lock a door,” said Charlie Kindel, SnapAV’s chief product and technology officer. “Neeo was expertly designed to be beautiful, and with Control4 OS 3, it’s also the easiest way for a family to enjoy entertainment in their homes.”
SnapAV acquired Control4 in August and Control4 is now SnapAV’s smart home brand. SnapAV has a stable of more than a dozen consumer technology brands covering all facets of custom installation.
