Definitive Technology Expands Popular Demand Series
The new Demand D17 and D15 towers and D5C center speaker boast a newly developed carbon-fiber woofer while retaining key features such as a bead-blasted aluminum baffle, double surround driver design, intended to “promote greater excursion, and an aluminum-dome tweeter that’s laterally offset and coupled with a shallow waveguide Definitive calls the 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens, designed to improve imaging by eliminating diffraction from the corners of the front baffle.
All midrange drivers and woofers also include the company’s patented Linear Response Waveguide, which is said improve dispersion and extend on- and off-axis response.
Pricing is $4,598/pair for the D17, $3,398/pair for the D15, and $799 for the D5C; all models are currently available in retail stores.
The D17 tower speaker is a three-way design combining a 1-inch tweeter with a 6.5-inch polypropylene midrange driver, two 6.5-inch carbon-fiber woofers, and dual side-firing 10-inch passive radiators in an enclosure that stands just over 43 inches. The D-15 is just shy of 41 inches tall and has 5.25-inch drivers and 8-inch passive radiators. Low-frequency output for both models is comparable at a rated 38 and 38 Hz, respectively.
The two-way D5C center speaker complements the Demand Series tower and bookshelf models with a 1-inch tweeter flanked by a pair of 5.25-inch midrange drivers
All models are available in a five-layer gloss white or piano black finish.
