Denon Retrofits Flagships

Manufacturers of surround gear typically upgrade products by replacing one model with another. But Denon is taking a different path with upgrades of a pair of four-year-old products.

The Denon AVR-5308CI flagship audio/video receiver and AVP-A1HDCI preamp-processor are geting Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction, Audyssey DSX width- and height-enhanced listening modes, and the Dolby Pro Logic IIz height-enhanced listening mode.

Of these, Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is probably the most important. As the best and most recently released of Audyssey's four auto setup and room calibration schemes, with ultra high res filters and 10,000 control points, it's something no self respecting, up to the minute flagship receiver should be without. See Audyssey site.

This Week In Consumer Electronics reports that this is the fourth major retrofit Denon has done on its high-end products.

The work will be done in Denon factory service centers starting in October 2011. Cost has yet to be determined.
