Dirac Announces 'Friendly' Room Correction Tool

Dirac Research, the Swedish developer of the digital sound optimization technology, has announced a mobile app for optimizing home theater audio.

Mobile Dirac Live, a consumer version of the company’s professional Dirac Live room correction platform, will be demonstrated in San Diego next week at CEDIA 2017. Through the use of a wizard that guides users through every step of the calibration process, the app is said to make it easy to optimize home theater set-up and correct for audio abnormalities and colorations. It helps “create a natural, realistic and transparent sound with tighter bass and reduced room modes, in a way previously not possible,” according to Dirac.

Android and iOS versions of the Mobile Dirac Live app will be available in the fall.

The Dirac Live platform on which the app is based is a patented room-correction technology that corrects the frequency response and impulse response of speakers. Dirac describes it as unique because it uses multiple measurement and mixed phase correction to provide “true impulse response correction over a large listening area, improving the depth, positioning, and distinction of individual voices and instruments.”

The app will be compatible with most AV receivers equipped with the embedded Dirac Live audio filters and algorithms.

“Dirac Live room correction technology can now be enjoyed by a significantly broader segment of the home theater market,” said Niklas Thorin, general manager of high performance audio. “With Mobile Dirac Live, manufacturers…can offer their customers a sleek, easy-to-use mobile app that allows them to optimize audio performance and ensure that they’re getting the most out of their system.”
