Epson's New Flagship Projector Arrives

Epson has long been the leader of LCD technology and they’ve brought another high-end LCD model to the market this year. The TW750UB is their new flagship LCD projector that will be shipping this December at a price just under $5,000.

This new projector features a dynamic contrast ratio of 75,000:1 and feature HQV Reon video processing. New color modes are included allowing the end user to specify their colorspace to REC 709 or SMPTE C. The package also includes an extra bulb, a ceiling mount and a 3-year full exchange warranty on the projector itself. Not a bad value at all. Each lamp is rated at 4,000 hours giving you plenty of life for the dollar.

At the show they demonstrated the projector with the Panamorph anamorphic lens kit, which tacks on about $6,000 more to the price tag but still lands a full constant height projector system for less than $11,000. Unfortunately they weren’t showing the projector with their dynamic iris system engaged. Their ISF co-worker obviously doesn’t understand on/off contrast ratios or the benefits of a dynamic iris system so he insisted they leave it off resulting in sub-par black levels and unimpressive depth. Hopefully we’ll get the chance to see it in prime form down the road.
