The Sky's the Limit

Living in New York City, I was very excited to read about a custom installation in a Manhattan apartment ("Sky High,"), complete with workarounds for the major problem of space constraints. I just wish it had gone further in describing the inherent problems with home theater construction in a building where your neighbors are literally surrounding you on all sides. The article made no mention of things like soundproofing, overall (or even estimated) costs for the project, and construction hassles from condo or coop boards. Even with these minor quibbles, though, I still thoroughly enjoyed the story. M. GERENA VIA E-MAIL

You bring up some things we could have legitimately covered, but we wanted to keep the article as general as possible so it would offer something for all of us who don't live in big-city apartments. That doesn't mean we won't discuss those issues when writing about future urban installs. And to address one of your points, the building itself is so well-constructed that soundproofing wasn't necessary.
