Fluance Introduces Omnidirectional Wireless Speaker

Fluance, the internet-based audio company based in Niagara Falls, Ontario, has introduced a portable wireless speaker designed to radiate sound in all directions.

The battery-powered Fi20 speaker supports wireless streaming via aptX-enabled Bluetooth 4.0 and has an up-firing 3-inch driver and reflector cone in the top of its enclosure that disperses sound 360 degrees. Standing 12 inches tall, the three-sided cabinet is made of MDF and ported to bolster bass output from a custom-built linen-fiber driver powered by a Class D amplifier rated to deliver 15 watts (continuous-average).

Features include simple top-mounted touch controls, an LED accent light, a carry strap, and a built-in speakerphone for taking and making calls from a connected phone. There’s also a 3.5mm minijack input for connecting other devices to the speaker.

When fully charged, the Fi20’s lithium-ion battery is said to last 24 hours when listening at moderate volume. Charge time is 3.5 hours and the speaker turns off automatically after 15 minutes if nothing is playing through the speaker. The battery is replaceable through a removable panel on the bottom of the speaker.

The Fi20 is available in black, walnut, or bamboo (shown) for $150.
