GoldenEar Expands Invisa Line with All-in-One Stereo Speaker

GoldenEar Technology is known for its freestanding tower speakers but has been quietly building its Invisa collection of speakers designed for mounting in walls and ceilings. The latest model in the line—the Invisa StereoPoint SP 652—makes its debut this week.

The speaker, which will sell for $449, is designed to deliver stereo sound from a single round speaker comprising a 6.5-inch dual-voice-coil driver encircled by an anti-resonance/diffraction control ring and two of the company’s signature HFVR folded-ribbon tweeters mounted in an acoustically optimized pod.

The SP 652 overcomes “significant colorations” that plague other single-point stereo speakers because the tweeters are mounted at an angle precisely calculated to maximize stereo coverage and radiation in a room, according to GoldenEar founder Sandy Gross. A high-frequency equalization switch is also included to help tailor the speaker’s sound to specific environments.

A single-piece driver/frame/flange construction made of marble-infused polymer is used to maintain a small footprint but also to “maximize performance.” The speaker comes with a round grille and a square grille is available as an option; both are paintable and secured with magnetic fasteners.
