GoldenEar to Unveil Reference Bookshelf Speaker
Slated for release in early 2020 at an expected retail price of $699 each, the Bookshelf Reference X (BRX) incorporates technology developed for the company’s award-winning Triton Reference flagship to achieve “superb sonic performance” in an ultra-compact form factor.
The BRX, described as a passive version of GoldenEar’s DA 3 powered wireless loudspeaker, is voiced to match the Triton Reference towers and teams the company’s signature folded-ribbon tweeter with a 6-inch cast-basket woofer and balanced crossover in a foot-tall enclosure with bass boosting 6.5-inch planar radiators on either side.
The company’s signature hand-rubbed piano-black lacquer finish completes the package.
The woofer, which boasts a focused-field magnet structure, is “basically” the same driver used in the Triton Reference, according to GoldenEar. Its cone is made of a special polypropylene formulation and formed with a proprietary curve said to combine “superior internal damping with a high speed of wave transmission through the cone.”
The crossover uses high-quality film capacitors in a floating configuration and a new “uniquely twisted” cable is used for internal wiring.
The BRX is rated to play down to 40 Hz and has a rated sensitivity of 90 dB; recommended power is 10-250 watts/channel.
