Hisense Launches 100" 4K ‘Laser TV’
Unveiled last year, the $10,000 TV is actually a two-piece ultra-short-throw laser projection system comprising a 100-inch screen that hangs on the wall and a projector that sits a few inches from the wall below the screen. Described as “anti-glare,” the screen is said to evenly distribute color and light to deliver a crisp, bright picture regardless of ambient light with a viewing angle that’s wider than an LCD TV, Hisense said, adding that the screen is “simple to hang without wires or intrusive installation.”
The system uses a proprietary 20,000-hour light source, powered by a Texas Instruments 4K DLP chip, to deliver a bright picture in any room, not just light-controlled home theaters, according to the company, which specs brightness at 3,000 lumens. Smooth Motion Plus technology is used to render images faster than LED/LCD TVs for smooth sports and fast-action scenes.
The projector has a built-in TV tuner for over-the-air content when an antenna is connected and uses Hisense’s Smart TV interface, which provides direct access to Netflix, Amazon Video, Pandora, TikiLIVE, YouTube, and others apps. The projector upscales standard content to 4K resolution and has two HDMI inputs.
On the audio side, the system features built-in 2.1-channel Harman Kardon system with four speakers — two each for the left and right channels — plus a stand-alone wireless subwoofer with a 6.5-inch driver. Total power output is 110 watts.
