Hot Tub Time Machine (Blu-ray)
Judd Apatow has ruined the typical Hollywood comedy with his sick sense of humor. Granted, he had nothing to do with this production, but it's a pure rip-off of his brand of humor that I personally don't find very funny. The language is so harsh a sailor would blush, there are multiple scenes with projectile vomiting, and too many crude sexual references befitting teenage boys and not grown men. It's pretty sad when the most mature member of the groups is actually a teenage boy.
Video Highlights
- AVC/1080p encode on a BD-50 disc
- Excellent detail
- Solid blacks
- Bright and accurate color palette
- Flesh tones have a slight orange tint
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Adequate dynamics
- Tepid bass
- Intelligible dialog
- Suitable ambiance
Normally I pick apart the technical aspects of a film I didn't enjoy, but that isn't the case here. The video presentation is outstanding with exquisite detail and a bold color palette. The audio track is what you would expect from a comedy and I loved the 1980s tunes.
Bonus Materials
- Includes both the theatrical and unrated versions
- Deleted Scenes
- Theatrical Trailer
- 4 Featurettes
- Digital copy
If you've seen the trailers then you've already watched the funniest scenes and I wouldn't waste your time unless you're a fan of crude comedies. On the plus side the presentation is outstanding although it's not enough to overcome the sophomoric screenplay. Skip it.
