Eric Bana stars as David Banner, whose involvement in a freak lab accident exposes him to gamma radiation. As a result, whenever the mild-mannered man becomes angry, he transforms into a huge, rampaging creature that destroys everything in his path. Banner's ex-girl friend Betty Ross believes that his father may hold the answer to the desperate situation but can she make the connection in time to save a terrified world.

Ang Lee’s adaptation of this popular comic character garnished a really mixed reception. I personally liked it and admired his effort to capture that comic feel with the photography but more serious tone with the storyline and performances. What results is a comic movie that isn’t bent on letting the action be the focal point but instead relies on the character development and story. The only real problem I had with the film was the last act, which gets a bit silly in some respects.

This has always been a pretty striking film visually and the Blu-ray release looks as good as any previous release I’ve seen. I love the detail this film delivers and the outstanding photography. Dimension is first rate and the color rendition is gorgeous. The quality of the film print can vary from time to time but the overall end result is still some of the best HD out there.

The new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix is incredible in its rich balance of dynamics and score. The action sequences have an intensity that is outstanding and the use of low bass really adds to the impact. The surround soundstage is aggressive in its use of directional effects and ambiance to put you in the moment. Like the video presentation there is just so much to love here.

Universal has really been ramping up their U-Control support on the Blu-ray format. This one features a picture-in-picture feature with interviews, behind the scenes footage and commentary that can be turned on and off as the film progresses. A full audio commentary is also included along with deleted scenes, production features and a great piece on the editing style of the film.

Despite the lackluster reception for this one, I’m still a pretty big fan. Universal has done a spectacular job with the A/V presentation and supplemental package. Highly recommended for fans of the character and genre.
