Saving Private Ryan Becomes No.1 Rental Title of All Time

According to the Video Software Dealers Association's weekly VidTrac reporting service, Saving Private Ryan has debuted as the top-renting video ever. In its first six days of release, the report says, Saving Private Ryan has been rented by more consumers than any other film in the same opening-week time period.

Released on Tuesday, May 25, just prior to the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Saving Private Ryan generated an estimated $9.6 million in VidTrac's 10,000-store sample, making it the highest revenue-generating rental title with the highest number of rentals ever in the first six days. This helped increase total US video-rental spending more than 9% over last year for the holiday week.

Garnering five Academy Awards---including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Sound Effects Editing---Saving Private Ryan earned more than $210 million at the box office. The film won many other awards and honors, including Golden Globes for Best Picture and Best Director, The Directors Guild of America award for Best Director, New York Film Critics Circle and Chicago Film Critics awards for Best Picture, and the Los Angeles Film Critics and Broadcast Film Critics awards for Best Picture and Best Director.
