Jonah Hex (Blu-ray)
While the story is loosely based on the DC Comics series, some of the changes made for the movie are too farfetched (conversing with the dead) and it's not very entertaining. Granted, there are plenty of explosions although the story lacks any depth and will insult your intelligence. Furthermore, the addition of Megan Fox as the love interest proves once again that the beautiful young woman can't act her way out of a paper bag, but she looks stunning in 1080p.
Video Highlights
- VC-1/1080p encode on a BD-25 disc
- Accurate color palette
- Adequate detail
- Deep blacks
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Front-loaded presentation
- Lots of explosions
- Intelligible dialog
This isn't the most impressive day-and-date release I've seen, but it's passable with above average audio and video. The cinematography comes across on the dark side and the sound design is too front-loaded for an action film with limited use of the surround speakers.
Bonus Materials
- BonusView PIP with the filmmakers
- The Inside Story of Jonah Hex featurette
- Additional scenes
- Includes DVD and Digital copy
Its short 82 minute runtime and the breast shot of Megan Fox on the cover art (not that there's anything wrong with that) was a warning that the entertainment value would be lacking, and my suspicions turned out to be right. I've seen worse movies the past year, but not many. Renter beware!
