Klipsch Intros Minimal Footprint Architectural Speakers
The Professional Series Reference series comprises the Pro-14RC in-ceiling model ($299) designed to size match recessed lighting and two in-wall models: the Pro-14RW 4-inch speaker ($299) and Pro-24-RW-LCR dual 4-inch left/center/right (LCR) speaker ($349).
Klipsch’s Tractrix horn-loaded aluminum-dome tweeters, paired with injection-molded-graphite (IMG) woofers, are said to provide controlled directivity of high frequencies for a more detailed and dynamic presentation with the company’s hallmark efficiency.
The speakers are equipped with a patent pending installation system called Sky Hook by Swarm that is self-adjusting and can be installed without tools, dramatically reducing installation time. The procedure goes something like this: You cut a hole, attach wires and when you press the speaker into the hole, the mount automatically adapts to the surface thickness with a preset clamping force that aims to eliminate the possibility of cracking drywall or breaking the dog leg that holds the speaker in place.
Paintable, bezel-free grilles help the speakers blend into any environment, and the Pro-14RC in-ceiling speaker offers the choice of a round or square grille.
To bolster the speakers, Klipsch offers the Professional Series Pro-800SW in-ceiling subwoofer ($599), featuring an 8-inch dual-voice-coil Cerametallic woofer in a bandpass enclosure that vents via a flexible port tube with a 4.25-inch opening to maintain the installation’s stealth look. The subwoofer can also be installed in the floor using an optional 4 x 10-inch vent kit. Custom EQ presets are said to optimize bass performance and the system can be controlled over IP by Control4, Crestron, and RTI systems.
