LG 4K OLED TVs Now Support HDR Streaming
Owners of LG’s EG9600 and EF9500 series 4K OLED televisions will be able to stream high dynamic range (HDR)-encoded content via the Amazon Video app available through LG’s webOS Smart TV platform. EG9600 series TVs require a firmware update to process HDR content.
Titles available to stream include the Amazon Original Series Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle as well as the pilot episode of the upcoming comedy series Red Oaks.
In other news, LG is staging the world’s first demonstration of HDR Hybrid broadcast broadband TV 2.0 (HbbTV 2.0) at IFA 2015 in Berlin to introduce consumers to HDR. The European Broadcasting Union is streaming HDR-encoded content from the BBC to LG 4K OLED TVs using an adaptive bitrate streaming technology that enables HDR content streamed over the Internet to be delivered from conventional HTTP web servers.
