LG Adds DTS Virtual:X Processing to New 4K TVs

DTS has announced that LG’s latest 4K/Ultra HD TVs will be the first TVs to integrate DTS Virtual:X audio processing, which delivers virtual height and surround sound without the need for additional speakers.

The technology supports any input source — from stereo to 7.1.4 channels — and includes bass enhancement in addition to the virtual height and virtual surround features. The processing also includes a “multiband hard limiter [that] allows for maximum system output without artifacts.”

The first LG TVs with DTS Virtual:X are now available in Korea with additional rollouts to follow in regions around world.

“We are very proud to add TVs to the sound bars and AVRs that already integrate DTS Virtual:X technology,” said Jea Yoo, president of DTS parent company Xperi. “This audio technology offers consumers a hassle-free, theater-like sound experience at home.”

I don't get the point. It'll still sound like TV speakers.
