LG Creates Pop-Up ‘Café OLED’ in NYC

LG has teamed with the Pantone Color Institute and artisan pastry chef Amirah Kassem to create a unique pop-up café that celebrates the “powerful presence of color.”

Café OLED will open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday (July 12) through Sunday (July 14) at 386 West Broadway, between Spring St. and Broome St. in the heart of New York City’s SoHo district.

Through digital art created by artist David McLeod and displayed on flagship OLED TVs situated around the venue, visitors will see extraordinary color inspired by the Pantone Color Institute’s Summer 2019 Trend Report.

Beyond the visuals, visitors will also be able to “taste color” through pastries crafted by Kassem, founder of New York’s Flour Shop and “inventive lattes” developed by local baristas.

The mission of Café OLED is to bring to life a colorful palette of “uplifting, joyful Pantone hues that lend themselves to playful expressionism.” Four colors will be featured: Pink Peacock (Pantone 18-2045), Tumeric (Pantone 15-1264), Aspen Gold (Pantone 13-0850), and Pepper Stem (Pantone 17-0542).

Sections of the café will be dedicated to humanizing the Institute’s Summer 2019 colors, “bringing an emotional connection into both the physical and digital space, enabling the exploration of color psychology and distilling the relationship between color and senses.”

“Color opens us to the world and when you have a pure black canvas like the LG OLED TV, we’re able to see a visually realistic image like we’ve never seen before,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
