LG to Launch Streaming Blu-ray Player

Should movies be consumed on disc or via the internet? You can have both options with LG's BD300 Blu-ray player.

Like the $99 Roku streaming box introduced a few months ago, this Blu-ray player streams movies and TV episodes from the Netflix library of more than 12,000 titles. You have to be a Netflix subscriber and have an ethernet connection. Output from any source (BD, upconverted DVD, streaming) will be 1080p capable with the full interactive features of Blu-ray's latest profile. There will be a USB port but the player will have enough onboard memory to stream programming. Movies begin streaming 30 seconds after you select one.

Look for it in the fall. The price will be $500. A Netflix unlimited-streaming package will run you another $8.99/month. Of course, that will also qualify you to rent 700 BD and 100,000 DVD hard copy titles from the bulging Netflix catalogue. See TWICE and press release.
