Lineup for 15th Annual TV Shootout Announced
The 2019 event will take place 9 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, June 12) during CE Week at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
The contenders in this year’s shootout are all flagship 65-inch 4K models:
• LG OLED65C9PUA OLED TV ($3,200 on lg.com)
• Samsung QN65Q90R LED-backlit LCD TV ($3,300 on samsung.com)
• Sony XBR-65A9G OLED TV ($3,800 on sony.com)
• Sony XBR-65Z9F LED-backlit LCD TV ($3,000 on Sony.com)
The shootout will pit the four TVs against one another while a panel of professional video colorists, finishers, TV reviewers, and video scientists judge and vote on key aspects of picture quality to determine which TV will be named 2019’s “King of TV.”
All test samples were pulled randomly from Value Electronics’ inventory, according to Robert Zohn, event organizer and owner of Value Electronics. No manufacturer-supplied samples will be used.
State-of-the-art switching, distribution, HDMI cables, and test equipment supplied by AVProStore and Metra Home Theater will be used for the evaluation, Zohn said. Industry experts Joel Silver, founder of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), and professional calibrator Kevin Miller of ISFTV will conduct the program using test patterns and real content to so the judges can evaluate critical attributes of picture quality, including contrast, color fidelity, color saturation, and motion resolution. Scott Wilkinson will moderate the event.
