Marantz Gets Back to Stereo

Forget Atmos and DTS:X surround sound. Marantz is bolstering its stereo collection with a new integrated amplifier and CD player. You read right: CD player.

Slated to hit stores in June, the PM6006 integrated amplifier ($699) and CD6006 CD Player ($499) are made for audiophiles.

The PM6006 is a discrete design with no ICs in the signal path. Its rated to deliver 2 x 45 watts into 8 ohms and features a fully-shielded 24bit/192kHz CS4398 digital-to-analog converter (DAC), three digital inputs—two optical and one coaxial—a phono input, bi-wirable, gold-plated speaker terminals, rigid feet, and a remote control.

The CD6006 features an oversized power supply, gold-plated connectors, a headphone amplifier with a gain control, and the same high-quality DAC used in the PM6006. It plays CD-R/RW discs and also has a front-panel iPhone/iPod-certified USB port for playing MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files and comes with the same remote as the PM6006. A double-layered bottom plate and rigid feet provide vibration-free stability.
