Mario to Make His Debut in Game App

Nintendo has announced that the iconic videogame character Mario is coming to an iPhone or iPad near you, marking his mobile-game debut.

Described as a new kind of game you can play with one hand, Super Mario Run will be available for download in the App Store on December 15. You will be able to download the app and test drive the game’s three modes before making a one-time payment of $9.99 to gain full, unlimited access.

The game will be compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 8.0 or later.

In the game, developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario is on a “world tour” featuring six worlds with 24 courses designed for one-handed play where you “travel through plains, caverns, haunted houses, airships, castles, and more.”

The lovable hero runs forward on his own, but relies on the tap of a single finger to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, pull off stylish moves, collect coins, and reach the flagpole to complete courses.

“Mario will behave differently depending on the timing of your taps, so it's up to you to show off particularly smooth moves, gather coins, and reach the goal,” Nintendo explained.
