DTS today announced that its Play-Fi multiroom streaming platform now supports AirPlay 2 in products from McIntosh and Arcam.

McIntosh’s all-in-one RS200 music system and Arcam’s rPlay wireless music receiver are the first Play-Fi products to support Apple’s AirPlay 2 wireless streaming platform.

DTS said it plans to expand the feature to additional products later in the year.

With AirPlay 2, spoken commands can be used to start music playback on Siri-enabled devices, including Apple’s HomePod smart speaker, and add AirPlay 2 speakers into a group with a HomePod or transfer music from the HomePod to other AirPlay 2 devices.

Apple users have a variety of other ways to access AirPlay 2 products, including direct streaming from iTunes, iOS, MacOS, and AppleTV. AirPlay 2’s additional network buffering is said to increase reliability when Wi-Fi connections are temporarily unavailable or unstable.

Play-Fi-enabled products also support 24/192 hi-res audio streaming and are compatible with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, allowing users to choose between Siri and Alexa voice control.

Supported streaming services include Amazon Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Juke, KKBox, Napster, Pandora, Qobuz, QQ Music, SiriusXM, Sound Machine, Spotify, Tidal, and internet radio.

DTS Play-Fi is supported in more than 200 speakers, soundbars, set-top boxes, and AV receivers from a number of brands, including, Anthem, Arcam, Definitive Technology, Dish TV, Integra, Klipsch, MartinLogan, McIntosh, Mission, Onkyo, Paradigm, Pioneer, Polk Audio, Quad, Rotel, Sonus Faber, Soundcast, and SVS Sound.
