Monitor Audio Unveils “Easy-to-Hide” Subwoofers
The CW8 ($895) and CW10 ($1,195) use 10- and 12-inch woofers, respectively, each teamed with two like-sized passive radiators to generate deep, high-impact bass from “easy-to-hide” enclosures that can be tucked behind furniture on room boundaries, according to Monitor.
In both models, proprietary DSP control software is said to regulate the output of an integrated 400-watt Class-D amplifier to ensure low distortion even when the systems are driven hard. In augmenting the active driver, the side-mounted passive radiators triple the radiating area for increased sound-pressure level (SPL) at low frequencies.
Versatile input and control options—including RS-232 and a dedicated SubConnect PC applet via a wired USB interface—are provided for both models. Inputs include stereo RCA (for two-channel applications), unbalanced RCA and balanced (XLR) LFE connections, and a 12-volt trigger (for connection to an AVR). RS-232 provides integration with third party control systems.
Controls include four factory-calibrated EQ presets—music, movie, flat, and impact—each of which can be adjusted in the SubConnect PC Applet (available as a download). The Applet also makes it possible to adjust auto-sensing turn-off times and assign different values to each input for accommodating systems with different output levels.
Construction is 0.7-inch-thick MDF finished in durable vinyl.
