If you're among the handful of home theater fans who have purchased JVC’s D-Theater videocassette machine, rejoice. On July 25, DreamWorks, Fox Home Entertainment, and Universal Studios announced the impending release of several new titles in the copy-protected ultra-high-resolution D-VHS format.

On August 6, Fox will release Independence Day, the 1997 science fiction blockbuster about an alien invasion of the earth, starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum. The film won "Best Special Effects" at that year's Academy Awards, and is a favorite among home theater fans. On September 3, Fox will release the Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta-Jones art-theft thriller Entrapment, the psychiatric drama Don’t Say A Word, starring Michael Douglas, and the Martin Lawrence comedy Big Momma’s House. Fox Home Entertainment's D-VHS titles will be priced at $34.98.

On August 20, Universal Studios Home Video will release End Of Days, a 1999 supernatural thriller in which Arnold Schwarzenegger battles the Devil himself. The D-VHS version of the film will carry a $44.98 suggested retail price.

On the same day, DreamWorks Home Entertainment will issue D-VHS copies of Galaxy Quest, the superb science fiction spoof starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Enrico Colantoni. The hilarious and poignant tale of a band of has-been actors saving a civilization in a distant galaxy will bear a $44.99 suggested retail price.
