MUSIC REVIEW: The Wreckers

Stand Still, Look Pretty Maverick
Music •• Sound ••
It's a great setup anyway: Teen-pop star Michelle Branch gets rebellious, goes country, and declares herself part of an equal duo with backup singer Jessica Harp. Sadly, the Wreckers' debut is neither a bold step out nor even a fun trainwreck; it's just another squeaky-clean, expensively produced slice of post-Shania country-pop. The mostly original songs aren't embarrassing, but they aren't remotely distinctive either. And while the two voices blend well, the acoustic "My, Oh My" is the only track with natural-sounding harmonies. The title tune can at least be excused as one of those slams at pop-star glamour that all glamorous pop stars feel obliged to write.
