Musical Fidelity Titan 2-Channel Power Amp
Tipping the scale at 250 pounds, the massive Titan comprises two nearly identical-looking units, one housing the audio electronics and the other encasing the power supply, a design intended to isolate these two functions so the power supply can't interfere with the audio in any way. Each channel of the dual-mono amp is powered separatelyin fact, the power-supply unit requires two 15-amp AC outlets and connects to the amp section with two dedicated cables along with a separate control cable.
Why does the Titan need so much AC power? Because it's designed to deliver a staggering amount of audio power1000 watts per channel into 8Ω, 2000Wpc into 4Ω, or 4000Wpc into 2Ω, with less than 0.01% distortion from 10Hz to 50kHz. The internal signal paths are fully balanced, and both balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided.
The cost is equally impressive£20,000 (just over $30,000 as of this writing). But if the Titan lives up to its name in performance as it certainly does in size, weight, and power output, I'd say it's well worth the asking price.
