Naim Adds Support for Qobuz Hi-Res Streaming

British hi-fi specialist Naim Audio has announced the availability of a firmware update that enables direct access to the subscription-based Qobuz hi-res music streaming service in a half dozen of its products.

Owners of the Uniti Atom, Uniti Star, and Uniti Nova music systems and the ND5 XS 2, NDX 2, and ND 555 network players will receive notification of the free, over-the-air update, which enables streaming in up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution through the Naim app; the app includes a 30-day free trial for the Qobuz service, which costs $14.99/month.

The update will be available for the Mu-so 2nd Generation and Mu-so Q 2nd Generation wireless speakers in the spring, though owners of these models can already access Qobuz via the Chromecast app.

In addition to bringing Qobuz integration to the Naim app, the firmware update provides several other upgrades, including HDMI auto switching for Uniti systems, which enables a connected TV to automatically select the HDMI input, improved multiroom functionality, and enhanced integration with Chromecast, Spotify, AirPlay 2, and Roon.

Naim also announced the availability of a new driver that enables all of its products to be seamlessly integrated with Control 4 systems. The driver allows volume control and source switching through the Control 4 interface and supports browsing for the Tidal subscription streaming service and internet radio with expanded capabilities planned for the future.
