New Audeze Headphones Embrace 3D Audio

Audeze has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to introduce a new set of planar-magnetic headphones built around 3D audio technology developed by Israel’s Waves Audio.

Designed with pro audio users in mind, the Mobius headphones are engineered for durability and comfort and use Waves Nx technology to “replicate true, real-world listening experiences” through the use of 360-degree head tracking. Nx also allows the headphones to communicate with the Waves Nx Virtual Mix Room and B360 Ambisonics Encoder plugins for mixing and monitoring audio in a spherical 360-degree soundfield.

The Mobius headphones will be available at the early-bird price of $249 ($150 off the regular retail price) and as part of a Creators Edition package that includes Waves Nx Virtual Mix Room and Waves B360 Ambisonics Encoder plugins, offered at the early bird price of $599 (regular price is $797).

“We do a lot of audio for 360 and VR,” said Lucas Wilson, founder and executive producer of VR/AR content producer Supersphere. “The Mobius streamlines those audio workflows and solves a major pain-point with audio creation for VR. It allows you to mix, monitor, and modify ambisonics and regular mono/stereo/multichannel audio in an ambisonics field, with full head-tracking, and represents a huge step forward in the audio-for-VR world.”

Key features of the Audeze Mobius, include:

• A large 3.9-inch planar transducer
• Support for USB-C, USB-A, analog (3.5 mm), and Bluetooth
• Integrated NX technology with head-tracking, virtual room emulation, and 3D sound localization
• Real-time support for 2.0, 5.1, and 7.1 3D audio
• Support for Ambisonics VR/AR content creation with the B360 Ambisonics Encoder and Nx Virtual Mix Room plugins
• Anatomy calibration
• A rated battery life of 10+ hours
