Nuvyyo Introduces $140 Cord-Cutter DVR

Nuvyyo, maker of the Tablo line of over-the-air (OTA) DVRs, has announced that a $140 “lite” version of the Tablo Dual 64GB OTA DVR it introduced last year will be available on BestBuy.com and at select Best Buy stores starting April 1.

The new Tablo Dual Lite skips the onboard storage — the original Tablo Dual has 64 gigabytes (GB) — but offers improved Wi-Fi and like its predecessor supports an external USB hard drive with up to 8 terabytes (TB) of capacity for some 2,000 hours of HDTV-quality recordings. Otherwise, the two models are essentially the same with two tuners to receive over-the-air TV signals and the ability to record and stream OTA programs both in and out of the home.

The Dual Lite can stream or record two OTA TV channels at once and uses hard-wire Ethernet or 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi to connect a TV antenna to your home network. Using Wi-Fi makes it easy to locate the antenna for optimal signal reception.

The DVR is also compatible with more than a dozen Tablo apps that make it possible to watch, pause, and record broadcast TV programs on a variety of devices, including:
• iOS and Android smartphones and tablets
• PC and Mac computers
• Streaming media devices, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Chromecast
• Gaming systems, including Xbox One and Nvidia Shield TV
• Smart TVs that support Roku and the Android, Samsung Tizen, and LG WebOS 2.0+ operating systems

“The Tablo DUAL 64GB quickly became one of our most popular OTA DVRs, but some TV fans still prefer the ‘bring your own storage’ approach of our original two-tuner model,” said Grant Hall, CEO of Nuvyyo. “Tablo Dual Lite is a DVR that delivers everything our customers love.”

Nuvyyo includes a 30-day trial of the optional Tablo TV guide, which provides synopses, cover art, and metadata for programs airing within two weeks as well as one-touch series recording and out-of-home streaming via Tablo Connect. If you opt for the guide, it requires a subscription of $4.99 a month or $50 a year, or you can buy a lifetime subscription for $150.
