Nuvyyo Unveils Upgraded ‘Cord Cutter’ DVR
A follow-up to the Top Pick-designated Tablo DVR the company introduced three years ago, the Tablo Dual ($250) is hailed as the first networked OTA DVR to include onboard recording storage. The product will be available in Best Buy stores and on bestbuy.com starting June 4.
The new DVR is 20 percent smaller than its predecessor, has two tuners, and adds 64 GB of storage for recording about 40 hours of HD content. Recording capacity can be expanded by up to 8 terabytes via an external USB hard drive.
The Tablo Dual can stream or record two OTA TV channels at once and uses either dual-band Wi-Fi or a hard-wire Ethernet connection to connect a TV antenna to your home network so live or recorded off-air TV programs can be watched on any device. Delivery is made possible by one of a dozen Tablo apps, which support iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Windows and Mac computers, Xbox and Nvidia Shield gaming systems, smart TVs (LG WebOS 2.0/3.0, Roku TV, Android TV), and streaming media devices including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Chromecast.
Nuvyyo includes a 30-day trial of the optional Tablo TV guide, which provides synopses, cover art, and metadata for programs airing within two weeks as well as one-touch series recording and out-of-home streaming via Tablo Connect. If you opt for the guide, it requires a subscription of $4.99 a month or $50 a year, or you can buy a lifetime subscription for $150.
“We are making it easier than ever for unhappy cable and satellite customers to make the switch from expensive cable to free antenna TV,” said Nuvyyo CEO Grant Hall. “By incorporating Wi-Fi network connectivity and onboard storage, the Tablo Dual is the best and most flexible choice for cord cutters seeking a whole-home DVR solution to record and stream today’s most-watched TV programs.”
