Optoma HD-8000, the HD-80's Big Brother
Optoma's HD-80, a single chip 1080P DLP one-piece projector ($2,699) has been shipping since June, so it's not necessarily news, but the $500 more HD-8000, a step-up unit based on the same frame, certainly is.
So what do you get for the extra $500? First of all, the 8000 is ISF certifiable thanks to changes in the software. The unit also comes with a 3 year warranty (1 year on the bulb) and a "full express" exchange program where your dealer (sorry internet guys) shows up at your house, takes the projector off the ceiling, ships it out and you get a new one the next day.
Like the HD-80, the HD-8000 has a 300 watt UHP bulb, 10,000:1 contrast ratio and, more usefully, a publicly acknowledged ANSI Contrast ratio of 516:1. Two HDMI inputs (1.3) and a DVI input and component input complete the package.
