Optoma Ships First Alexa Voice-Enabled Projector

Optoma today announced the availability of the “world’s first voice-enabled home theater projector.”

Previewed in January at CES 2018, the Optoma UHD51A 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) projector is available starting today for $1,699 through Amazon.com, B&H Photo, Beach Camera, Best Buy, and Fry’s Electronics (in store).

Based on Texas Instrument’s DLP technology, the projector distinguishes itself as the first to integrate with Amazon’s voice-activated virtual assistant Alexa via the new SmartProjection for Smart Home skill, which effectively converts the projector into a smart device, allowing viewers to turn power on and off, change volume and input, and control a media player using voice commands.

Beyond the voice-control innovation, the UHD51A features a built-in 4K media player that supports HDR10 high dynamic range (HDR), 60 Hz refresh rates, and Rec.2020/DCI-P3 wide color gamut. Features include integrated speakers, a six-segment color wheel, 1.3x optical zoom, 15 percent vertical lens shift, and two HDCP 2.2-enabled HDMI 2.0 inputs.

Capable of projecting an “optimal” image size of up to 140 inches diagonal, the projector is compatible with 3D Blu-ray, supports the MHL 2.1 connection standard, and has a rated brightness of 2,400 ANSI lumens and rated contrast ratio of 500,000:1.

“With smart home adoption on the rise, and voice increasingly becoming a preferred way for consumers to interface with their electronics, we prioritized delivering this feature to our audience,” said Brian Soto, Optoma’s head of product management.
